Buenos Aires, November 2, 2025 – Total News Agency-TNA – President Javier Milei announced on Sunday the appointment of Diego Santilli as the new Minister of the Interior, replacing Lisandro Catalán, who resigned a few days ago.
Santilli's appointment comes at a time when the government is seeking to signal governability amid internal tensions and cabinet reshuffles. Official sources describe the decision as an attempt to strengthen ties with the provinces and the Legislative Power at a crucial moment for the approval of economic, fiscal, and structural reform projects.
Santilli, recently elected as a deputy for the province of Buenos Aires under the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) alliance, was presented by Milei on his social media with a message that describes him as the official responsible for "leading conversations with governors and legislators to articulate with the National Congress the necessary consensuses for the upcoming reforms."
The appointment is part of a strategic reshuffle of the Executive, following Catalán's resignation and other cabinet movements. His designation also marks a change in the profile of the Ministry of the Interior, shifting from a more technical to a more political-negotiating orientation, according to analysts.
The new minister will immediately face the task of building political alliances ahead of the upcoming Congressional sessions, where the ruling coalition will seek to capitalize on the legislative resources obtained in the last elections to advance the reform agenda.
The move concludes with rumors about Santiago Caputo, who remains as a presidential advisor and influential in management areas, although his formal entry into the government is on hold. Santilli has a significant political career: he was Deputy Chief of Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, has experience in interacting with different levels of the State, and his inclusion in the cabinet is interpreted as a gesture of openness towards sectors of the PRO party, with whom La Libertad Avanza maintains a fluctuating alliance. Santiago Caputo would continue as an advisor.
